The Out & About canal boat, formally known as "Youthreach"
was built in 1987 and is a 47 feet long 12 berth, wide beam vessel powered by a
marine diesel engine. Following the ending of the Youthreach project the boat
was adopted by the Bradford Duke of Edinburgh's Award Centre trustees. Some
major changes have now taken place at the Centre and since 2003 the boat has
been in the care of its very own charitable organisation, the Bradford Barge
Association. Since its original build the boat has undergone some major alterations - including lengthening by 5 feet, a full internal refit, a new engine and gearbox and most recently a brand new heating and hot water system. We hope that this latest addition to the available facilities will enable the boat to be utilised for an extended season, and we acknowledge the financial assistance given to us by the trustees of the Bradford Award Fund that has enabled this work to be carried out. The Association is a fully constituted charitable organisation and it is our intention to eventually register with the Charity Commission as an Unincorporated Association.
